Depression Therapy in Manhattan
We can collaborate to explore your feelings, experiences and needs to establish a sense of control over your experience.
Many of my clients who struggle with depression or sadness describe their experience as either the onset of a significant change in their level of happiness and productivity or as a subtle and gradual change that is difficult for them to ascertain but noticeable to their friends and loved ones.
These significant changes at times come with changes in lifestyle and activity levels. Sufferers at times may use alcohol and other substances to try to self-medicate and cope in silence.
The clinical symptoms for depression may include short and brief bouts of sadness to possibly even longer bouts of depressive symptoms lasting more than two years.
Depression symptoms to look for include:
- Depressed mood most of the day.
- Markedly diminished interest and pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the day, nearly every day
- Significant weight loss when you are not dieting or at times gaining weight, there can be a change in the increase or decrease of appetite nearly every day.
- A slowing down of thoughts and a reduction of physical movement that is sometimes observable by others.
How I work with Depression
Clients with depression experience a sense of fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day, a feeling of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt nearly every day.
Recurrent thoughts of death, recurrent thought with ideation with plan, or suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide.
Mood disorders such as depression are debilitating causing us to struggle with everyday activities leaving us in social isolation and leaving us with the feeling of desperation.
